Day 10

I continued to study for the Boating Exam today. I moved on to the last two chapters, which were Boating Emergencies and Water Sports. Some Boating Emergency subjects were Types of Accidents, Weather Emergencies, and Personal Injuries. Some Water Sport subjects were Responsibility of the Operator, Water-Skiing, fishing, hunting, and snorkeling/scuba diving. The Responsibility of an operator talks mostly about being responsible for your passengers. When operating a motor craft you are in charge of everyone’s lives because you have total control over the engine and its power. Some types of accidents are capsizing, swamping, and falling overboard, which can all be avoided by handling the boat properly and abiding by the rules and regulations. When a boat has too much weight it is more likely to capsize because it is very heavy in the waves especially when you are going really fast. It is also easy to swamp the boat when there are too many people on board because if a large wave comes then the boat is too heavy to go over it. It is easy for someone to fall overboard if they are not sitting inside of the boat and you are going to fast causing the passenger to fall out. There is always a risk of having a fire on board a boat because there is an engine on board that can catch a flame and easily blow up because of the gasoline being so close. If the driver of the boat can drive responsibly in the vessel then there is less likely to be a problem. It is always good to be aware incase something bad happens. If everything is safe then you can have lots of fun out in the water by waterskiing, fishing, and many other activities! I will continue to review the material for the test this weekend, and then take the test on Monday night. Hopefully the test won't be too hard because I really don't feel like taking it again. This Monday we will be back at the loft to finish up the last week of senior project.
